| dc.description.abstract | In the face of rapid digital transformation, Sub-Saharan Africa is increasingly vulnerable to cyber threats, posing significant risks to sustainable economic development. A green cybersecurity framework is one that integrates environmental considerations with cybersecurity measures which can play a pivotal role in addressing these challenges. The proposed framework emphasizes three core components: enhancing energy efficiency, promoting renewable energy use, and incorporating eco-friendly practices into cybersecurity operations. By prioritizing energy efficient technologies and practices, the framework aims to reduce the carbon footprint associated with data centers and cybersecurity operations. Additionally, the integration of renewable energy sources into these operations can further mitigate environmental impact while ensuring a stable and secure digital infrastructure. Furthermore, the framework advocates for the adoption of green certifications and standards within the cybersecurity sector, encouraging organizations to align with international best practices in both cybersecurity and environmental stewardship. Capacity building initiatives are also crucial, focusing on training and resources to support local cybersecurity professionals in implementing these practices effectively. Ultimately, this green cybersecurity framework seeks to create a resilient and sustainable digital environment in Sub-Saharan Africa, supporting economic growth while addressing the pressing need for environmental conservation. By aligning cybersecurity efforts with sustainability goals, the framework not only enhances security but also contributes to a greener, more resilient future for the region. | |
