Pastures and Forage Crops for Colleges

Abstract

Adequate production of pasture is essential to the growth of livestock business, particularly when the production's objectives are financial gain and environmental sustainability. Plants are, by nature, the main source of energy for all other animal kind, (including humans).Depending on the management style, there is a direct or indirect correlation between cattle performance and the species of pasture. While some livestock, like pigs, poultry, rabbits, and equines (donkeys and horses), are able to consume some fibrous forages, which ferment in the caeca and provide the animals with energy for physiological functions, ruminant livestock, like cattle, sheep, and goats, can only graze or browse the pasture. Of course, because pasture (of whatever species) is a member of the ecosystem, it responds and contributes to the climate, soil, plants as well as humans and animals in the grassland bionetwork. These connections support system equilibrium, which in turn supplies wholesome feed for cattle.
