Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study was carried out with a view to find out the relative effectiveness of pre-reading strategy on reading comprehension achievement of senior secondary school students. Also investigated were the relationships between attitude to reading and achievement in reading comprehension; and relationship between sex and performance in reading comprehension.
Ninety-six senior secondary school one students, from two secondary schools (of mixed type) in Ilaro, Ogun State constitute the subjects.
The pre-test post-test control group experimental design (in which subjects in the experimental group were subjected to four weeks experimental teaching sessions) was used.
Using a reading habit inventory, an attitude scale and a multiple-choice objective type achievement test for pre and post-tests, between which were the treatment sessions, the subjects exposed to pre-reading strategy skill teaching were compared with the control group.
